1927 Italian Violin from Marcello Morutto Workshop
A fine violin certified by Carlson Cacciatori Neumann & C. in Cremona, Italy as made by Plinio Michetti in the workshop of Marcello Morutto. The violin bears Morutto's label dated 1927. It is appraised at $20,000.
The back is formed by two pieces of lowland maple showing a narrow figure that slopes from the center joint toward the flanks. The sides are of maple similar to the back. The head is of maple with a lighter flame pattern. The front is in two pieces of even grained spruce. The varnish is a warm reddish orange colour over a golden ground. This violin is typical of the early work of Plinio Michette. Length 35.7 cm., Width U.B. 16.2 cm., Width L.B. 20.7 cm.
